Keenan and Associates serves as the FOP Legal Defense Plan’s Benefit (Claims) Administrator. Their responsibilities include approving and contracting with FOP Legal Defense Plan Inc. attorneys, responding to coverage questions, determining coverage eligibility and processing claims for legal defense benefits. They also pay attorney defense costs on behalf of the Plan and its participating members.
The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Legal Defense Plan is designed to provide payment of legal defense costs for covered duty-related administrative disciplinary action by your law enforcement employer, and civil or criminal lawsuits, including grand jury proceedings.
Fill out a claim form and review the list of approved Plan Attorneys. Your chosen attorney will send the claim form and supporting documents to Keenan & Associates. You can also forward the Claim Form with documents directly to Keenan & Associates.
Yes. If you choose a Plan Attorney, there is no deductible and no limit on attorney fees. If you choose a Non-Plan Attorney, there is a $250 deductible and a maximum limit on attorney fees. A Non-Plan Attorney can become a Plan Attorney by simply enrolling and meeting the Plan’s requirements at the time he or she begins to represent you. Defense for any Administrative, Civil, and Criminal actions, including grand jury proceedings, brought against you in the scope of your law enforcement duty, as provided in the Plan Description. Under the Administrative coverage, there is a salary reimbursement option which allows you to choose up to three days' actual loss-of-pay ($500 limit) in lieu of legal costs for any suspension.
